Don't forget

Basic food rules

Remember these for a smooth recovery process.

All-on-X: 3 month diet

  • Strict no-chew diet.
  • Choose foods that are pureed, blenderized, or easy to mash with a fork.
  • If your teeth need to come together to bite, skip it.
  • Avoid crunchy, chewy, seeded, or hard foods.

General post-op diet

  • Day 1: clear liquids only and nothing hot.
  • Then move to soft foods like smoothies, eggs, oatmeal, mashed potatoes, and similar textures.
  • Advance only as tolerated and only when comfort allows.

Important no's

  • No straws.
  • No carbonated drinks early on.
  • No smoking.
  • No mouthwash or peroxide in the first week unless your surgeon tells you otherwise.

Recovery basics

Diet isn't everything

Bleeding: Bite on gauze as directed. If bleeding continues, call the office.
Swelling: Use ice in short cycles during the first 48 hours.
Sleep: Keep your head elevated with pillows for the first week.
Cleaning: Start gentle salt-water rinses the day after surgery.
Activity: Take it easy. Avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activity.
Temperature: Warm or cool foods are better than very hot foods right after surgery.
